La Casera Rewards and Celebrates Frontline Workers in our Communities

The La Casera Company (TLCC) took the initiative to reward frontline workers who have risked their own lives during the Covid-19 pandemic. The global pandemic has affected over 7 million people resulting in over 500,000 deaths. Nigeria is not left out, with over 30,000 confirmed cases and over 700-death pan Nigeria with the numbers rising on a daily basis. This is why our frontline workers are our unsung heroes and the La Casera Heroes initiative seeks to celebrate and reward their heroic acts and services at this vital time.   The public nominated these amazing humans, from all walks of life including doctors, nurses, supermarket attendants, food sellers, security operatives, pharmacists, chemists, dispatch riders and so on.   The first set of La Casera heroes are ten in total and they were all given super hero identities. Police in Ogun rescue six year old girl after her stepmother allegedly tortured her using nails

The police in Ogun State have rescued a six-year-old girl after her stepmother, Abimbola, allegedly tortured her with nails at their residence in Ijagba, in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.   The little girl's plight was brought to the notice of the police by a non-governmental organization, Olanrewaju Omo-George Foundation, after it received reports from concerned neighbors about the horrific treatment her father Taiwo Onabanjo and his new wife meted out on the minor. The foundation’s supervisor, Christopher Onuegbu, said immediately the report was received, a complaint was made at the Sagamu police division and the couple were immediately arrested.   “We received a distress call that a stepmother had been torturing a child with nails. The stepmother used the nails to inflict injuries on her head and body, and we asked for the location and the person said it was in Ijagba, Sagamu. Entire Spanish village is quarantined after 12-year-old girl tests positive for Coronavirus

The entire population of a Spanish village with about 200 residents has been put into quarantine today after a 12-year-old girl tested positive for Coronavirus.   Fernando Resino Carrillo, the mayor of Sotillo de las Palomas explained the decision, saying the vast majority of the 200 residents fall into the risk category because of their age and he is worried that the virus might spread.   He has ordered everyone to stay at home for at least ten days after a girl contracted Covid-19. But refused to disclose how the girl got the virus but tests are being carried out on children she has been in contact with.    The Ministry of Health of Castilla-La Mancha has also started tracking people who may have been in contact with her family in recent days.   According to reports, the girl is being isolated at home and has not needed hospital treatment while the relatives in her household have not shown symptoms but are awaiting their test results.     Spain has recorded 278,782 Coronavirus cases

Two confirmed dead and many properties razed as gas explosion rocks Ajao estate in Lagos (photos)

Two persons have been confirmed dead in a gas explosion that rocked Afariogun Street in the Ajao area of Lagos State this evening Tuesday, July 28.   The explosion started from a shop used in refilling gas cylinders. Nine shops were razed in the explosion and a number of cars were also burnt.   According to reports, the accident happened after a 62-year-old woman, who runs a cooking gas shop and her 32-year-old daughter were called back to their shop to attend to a “regular customer” who came to fill a gas cylinder. The woman returned and successfully attended to the customer. However, the sad incident happened when the customer tried putting the gas cylinder into a waiting tricycle, it fell and exploded.   The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident, said the fire had been extinguished and that the bodies of the deceased persons have been evacuated from the scene of the incident.   See more photos from the scene be

Three- storey building collapses in Ebonyi

A three-storey building which is still under construction at Nkaliki Road opposite the Abakaliki Local Government Council Headquarters, has collapsed.    Some government officials which includes the Secretary to the State Government Kenneth Ugbala; Commissioner for Internal Security, Stanley Okoro Emegha; Special Assistant to the Governor on Capital Territory, Chinyelu Udoku and Chairman of Abakaliki Capital Territory Development Board (ACTDB) Dr Uche Onwe have visited the site.    While Ugbala directed the immediate sealing of the site and demolition of the building, Emegha ordered the arrest of the site engineer. Udoku asked the ACTDB to produce the staff that approved the building and all those in charge of monitoring the construction.   Onwe on the other hand said investigations revealed that sub-standard materials were used for the building which also had lots of structural defects. Teacher arrested for raping his 10-year-old pupil in Yobe; says she gave her consent

The Yobe state police command has arrested an Assistant headteacher with Jajere Central Primary School, Abubakar Musa. for allegedly raping one of his pupil, a 10-year-old (name withheld), and claiming it was consensual.   Disclosing his arrest to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, said Musa who is well known in the community for defiling little children, used money to lure his victim, a primary five pupil, into an uncompleted building and raped her on two occasions, July 15 and July 17.   “From our investigation, we found out that Musa met her in the market where she sells sachet water. He then picked two sachets of water and left after telling her to meet him in an uncompleted building for her money. As soon as she arrived, he took advantage of the situation and had sexual intercourse with her. Nigerian man shares how he went from having a 3rd class from UI to a First class from a UK university

A Nigerian man who graduated with a third class from the University of Ibadan has graduated from the University of Plymouth with a first class and he took to Twitter to share his story.   He admitted that he didn't give his best while schooling in UI and, as a result, he had to come back for an extra semester after his mates had graduated. In spite of all that, he graduated with a third class degree.   He said he found it hard to get jobs because of his poor result.    He decided to travel abroad and get a first degree again and he just graduated with a First class. 25 teenagers and their leader arrested while allegedly shooting a porn movie

25 teenagers (10 girls and 15 boys) have been arrested by the police for allegedly shooting pornographic videos in Kenya’s Kakamega County.    The teenagers who are reportedly in Form Two and Three, are between the ages of 13 and 17. Among the arrested suspects is the alleged mastermind identified simply as Caleb.    An eyewitness who is garbage collector, said he was attracted to the scene after he saw a polythene bag full of condoms. Upon closer inspection, he saw the teenagers having sex and another person recording. He said he notified the police immediately.    The eyewitness said;    “I was doing my garbage collecting business, which is when I noticed something strange, there were so many condoms wrapped in a poly bag and I also heard some noise from the house. “When I walked into the house, I got shocked, the girls were in the act and there was a man shooting. “I went to tip the police and they immediately drove to the scene where the suspects are reported to have been having bo

President Buhari departs for Mali tomorrow July 23

President Buhari will on Thursday, July 23, depart for Bamako, Republic of Mali on a one-day visit, following the briefing by the ECOWAS Special Envoy to the country, former President Goodluck Jonathan.   According to a statement released by presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, President Buhari and some ECOWAS leaders led by the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the sub-regional organization, President Issoufou Mahamadou of Niger Republic, agreed to meet in Mali to engage in further consultations towards finding a political solution to the crisis in the country.   Malian President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Presidents Machy Sall of Senegal, Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana and Alassane Ouattara of Cote d'Ivoire are expected to participate in the Bamako meeting.   Former President Jonathan was at the State House in the company of President of ECOWAS Commission, Mr Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, on Tuesday, July 21 to brief President Buhari on the unfolding situatio

UAE orders Nigerians with expired visas to leave on or before August 17

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ordered Nigerians with expired visas to leave the country on or before August 17. This development comes weeks after some Nigerians including  Abass Ramon, popularly known as Hushpuppi , were arrested by the Dubai Police for fraud.   In a statement released today July 22, the Nigerian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE, announced that the UAE government has given waivers on fines and penalties to Nigerian nationalities whose visas expired before March 1 and expect the affected Nigerians to leave the UAE on or before August 17.   The embassy enjoined the affected Nigerians to join the evacuation flights arranged from the country before the expiration of the grace period.    The statement reads in part   “The Embassy wishes to inform that the government of the United Arab Emirates has granted waivers on fines/penalties on visas that expired before 1st March 2020 to leave the country on or before 17th of August, 2020. "It was just a scare" - Man .U defender Eric Bailly gives update after being hospitalized following head injury

                                 Manchester United and Ivory Coast defender, Eric Bailly, has given an update on his health condition after he was stretchered off and placed on oxygen following his head injury sustained in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea.   According to Bailly he is not as bad as first feared, with the defender describing it as "just a scare".   Bailly suffered a cut to the head during the first-half at Wembley in a collision with centre-back partner Harry Maguire, which saw the 26-year-old receive treatment for 11 minutes on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher.   The Ivory Coast international was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged and he has provided an update for fans and thanked them for their well wishes. Madagascar hospitals reach full capacity as Covid-19 cases surge

Public hospitals in Madagascar have reportedly reached full capacity and will only admit patients with severe symptoms of Coronavirus as cases surge in the Indian Ocean island nation.   The Bloomberg news portal reports that five public hospitals in the capital Antananarivo had already announced that they could no longer cope with the influx of patients.   The government has opened a 400-bed treatment center for people with mild symptoms and is importing about 1,000 oxygen machines.   Earlier this month, President Andry Rajoelina reimposed a lockdown on the country’s central region following a spike of new cases. Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has slammed Arsenal by saying he doesn't have much respect for the team off the pitch.   Guardiola's team lost to his former assistant Mikel Arteta's Arsenal 2-0  in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday as Man City suffered their first domestic cup defeat in more than two-and-a-half years.     Guardiola's statement could be as a result of reports that Arsenal was part of a group of Premier League clubs that wrote to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) asking them to refuse any attempt from Manchester City to delay a two-year Champions League ban. “We didn’t play the first half against Arsenal like the second, that was the only regret. President Buhari and ex-president Goodluck Jonathan in closed door meeting at the Presidential villa

President Buhari is currently in a closed-door meeting with his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, at the State House in Abuja.   The former President arrived at the presidential villa at about 11am and went straight into the meeting with President Buhari.   The purpose of the meeting is yet unknown but it is believed it has to do with the recent assignment Jonathan was charged with by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). ECOWAS had appointed the former president to head the political reconciliation in Mali where there is leadership tussle.   The former President was in Mali over the weekend.
