Woman arrested after allegedly locking up five-year-old nephew for 6 months in Lagos

  A woman has been arrested for allegedly locking up and assaulting her nephew, 5, for 6 months.   Sharon Williams, 43, had 5-year-old Micheal Ibiyome living with her in Gberigbe, Ikorodu, Lagos, and allegedly subjected him to abuse a number of times.   She also allegedly denied him an education, food, and, love, and freedom to move around.   In the latest development, the suspect allegedly used a cutlass to inflict injuries on the back of Ibiyome’s head and a neighbour reported the matter to the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs, which transferred the case to the state Ministry of Youths, Sports and Social Development,  Punch  reports.   The suspect was arrested at her residence around 8pm on Wednesday, July 14.     The Lagos State Deputy Coordinator for Child Protection, Lateef Akinborode, said it took about five hours for the suspect to surrender herself for arrest after security agencies tried to gain access i...

Shock as 'dead' woman comes back to life and climbs off mortuary slab

An elderly woman who was pronounced dead came back to life after a night in a hospital morgue in Russia.   Zinaida Kononova, 81, was pronounced dead after surgery in Russia to remove an intestinal obstruction.   Her family was informed and began planning her funeral. She was taken to the morgue in Gorshechensky central district hospital at 1:10am on 14 August.   Almost seven hours later at 8am a female morgue worker "got the shock of her life" when she found the grandmother sprawled on the floor.   The morgue   The woman had fallen as she attempted to climb off the morgue table and escape.   An ambulance driver overheard the commotion as he entered the building, and says the "frightened" morgue worker was saying "Grandma, lie down, granny, be quiet."   The paramedic thought the morgue employee had gone "crazy" and was talking to the dead. Graduate of UNILAG bags 50 years imprisonment for raping 19-year-old girl in Lagos

A 34-year-old man was sentenced to 50 years imprisonment by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, for raping a 19-year-old student of UNILAG on campus.   John Otema, a UNILAG graduate, was charged before Justice Abiola Soladoye with three counts of rape and assault occasioning harm on two female students.    The quantity surveyor and facilities manager was found guilty on two-counts of rape and assault occasioning harm in respect of the rape of the 19-year-old student (Student X), but was found not guilty on a charge of raping a 20-year-old student (Student Y) of the institution.   He bagged 50-years in prison for the rape and three-years in prison for the assault on student X with both sentences to run concurrently. 3 Corps members and 19 undergraduates arrested for alleged Internet fraud in Ibadan (photos)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan Zonal Office on Tuesday August 11, arrested 32 "Yahoo boys" for their alleged involvement in internet fraud.   The suspects were apprehended during a raid on their hideout in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. President Buhari has appealed to Nigerians to exercise more patience in his administration's fight against insecurity.    In a statement released on Monday August 10, Buhari disclosed that they are investing heavily in acquiring modern equipment. He added that when the equipment arrive, security operatives will undergo training ahead of deployment to the field.   The statement read;    We are working very hard to ensure the security situation in every part of Nigeria improves very soon. As part of our efforts, we are investing heavily in acquiring modern equipment. Some have arrived, some are being cleared at the Ports, and we have others still on their way. Our government is doing its best on the question of equipment, and the military know. We understand the importance of properly equipping our personnel, so that they can deliver their best. 28-year-old woman becomes the first COVID-19 survivor to receive a double-lung transplant in the US

A 28 year old woman, known as Mayra Ramirez has become the very first Coronavirus survivor to receive a double lung transplant in the United States.   Ramirez, experiencing Coronavirus symptoms, arrived at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital's emergency room on April 26 and within minutes, her terrible experience with the disease began. "All I remember was being put to sleep as I was being intubated and then six weeks of complete nightmares," she told CNN on Monday August 3, 2020.  "Some of the nightmares consisted a lot of drowning and I attribute that to not being able to breathe."   According to her, Covid-19 had irreversibly damaged her lungs and her other organs were beginning to fail.   Ramirez spent more than a month on a ventilator and doctors told her parents who flew from North Carolina to say a final goodbye to her as they were unsure if she would survive.   But doctors, gave a her a clinger of hope; A double-lung transplant was the only thing that cou...

Police in Ogun rescue six year old girl after her stepmother allegedly tortured her using nails

The police in Ogun State have rescued a six-year-old girl after her stepmother, Abimbola, allegedly tortured her with nails at their residence in Ijagba, in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.   The little girl's plight was brought to the notice of the police by a non-governmental organization, Olanrewaju Omo-George Foundation, after it received reports from concerned neighbors about the horrific treatment her father Taiwo Onabanjo and his new wife meted out on the minor. The foundation’s supervisor, Christopher Onuegbu, said immediately the report was received, a complaint was made at the Sagamu police division and the couple were immediately arrested.   “We received a distress call that a stepmother had been torturing a child with nails. Two confirmed dead and many properties razed as gas explosion rocks Ajao estate in Lagos (photos)

Two persons have been confirmed dead in a gas explosion that rocked Afariogun Street in the Ajao area of Lagos State this evening Tuesday, July 28.   The explosion started from a shop used in refilling gas cylinders. Nine shops were razed in the explosion and a number of cars were also burnt.   According to reports, the accident happened after a 62-year-old woman, who runs a cooking gas shop and her 32-year-old daughter were called back to their shop to attend to a “regular customer” who came to fill a gas cylinder. The woman returned and successfully attended to the customer. Teacher arrested for raping his 10-year-old pupil in Yobe; says she gave her consent

The Yobe state police command has arrested an Assistant headteacher with Jajere Central Primary School, Abubakar Musa. for allegedly raping one of his pupil, a 10-year-old (name withheld), and claiming it was consensual.   Disclosing his arrest to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, said Musa who is well known in the community for defiling little children, used money to lure his victim, a primary five pupil, into an uncompleted building and raped her on two occasions, July 15 and July 17.   “From our investigation, we found out that Musa met her in the market where she sells sachet water. 25 teenagers and their leader arrested while allegedly shooting a porn movie

25 teenagers (10 girls and 15 boys) have been arrested by the police for allegedly shooting pornographic videos in Kenya’s Kakamega County.    The teenagers who are reportedly in Form Two and Three, are between the ages of 13 and 17. Among the arrested suspects is the alleged mastermind identified simply as Caleb.    An eyewitness who is garbage collector, said he was attracted to the scene after he saw a polythene bag full of condoms. Upon closer inspection, he saw the teenagers having sex and another person recording. President Buhari and ex-president Goodluck Jonathan in closed door meeting at the Presidential villa

President Buhari is currently in a closed-door meeting with his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, at the State House in Abuja.   The former President arrived at the presidential villa at about 11am and went straight into the meeting with President Buhari.   The purpose of the meeting is yet unknown but it is believed it has to do with the recent assignment Jonathan was charged with by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). ECOWAS had appointed the former president to head the political reconciliation in Mali where there is leadership tussle.   The former President was in Mali over the weekend. LASTMA official allegedly commits suicide after stabbing his lover in Lagos

An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA, Emmanuel Mekuri, allegedly killed himself today July 5, after he had stabbed his 37-year-old lover, Patricia Ogunshola, in their apartment around Zoo area, Araromi in Lagos state.   A statement released by Bala Elkana, spokesperson of the state police command, said at about 1pm today, men of the Morogbo Police Station received a distress call that Emmanuel, 47, stabbed his lover, Patricia on her right thigh, with a Jackknife and in the process, stabbed himself as well, leading to his death.   ''Alarm was raised by the 13 years old daughter of the woman (whom she got from a previous marriage), which drew the attention of neighbours to the scene. 779 new cases of Coronavirus recorded in Nigeria

779 new cases of COVID19 were recorded in Nigeria on Saturday, June 27.   According to the statistics released by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, Lagos recorded 285 new cases, 68 in Rivers, 60 in FCT, 60 in Edo, 56 in Enugu, 47 in Delta, 42 in Ebonyi, 41 in Oyo, 19 in Kaduna, 18 in Ogun, 16 in Ondo, 12 in Imo, 11 in Sokoto, 9 in Borno, 8 in Nasarawa, 5 in Abia, 5 in Gombe, 5 in Kebbi, 4 in Kano, 3 in Yobe, 3 in Ekiti and 2 in Osun.   Nigeria now has 24, 077 confirmed cases of the viral disease with 558 fatalities.   See break down according to states below Share by Adeniji Inflex

Gunmen attack filling station in Ondo, attendant killed An attack by some gunmen at a filling station in Akure, Ondo state's capital on Tuesday June 23, left one person dead.    The state's police spokesperson, Tee-Leo Ikoro said a filling station along Oba-Ile Road area of the city was attacked late in the night on Tuesday. Though the gunmen did not succeed in robbing the filling station, the incident however led to pandemonium with people scampering for safety.   Two suspects were arrested not far from the scene of the incident in connection to the crime, while two other suspects who escaped are being trailed by the police.
